The Lord calls us all to pray. Faithful prayer creates an atmosphere for God to operate in the life of his children. Prayer is an invitation to commune with God in a way that can occur in no other way. The book of Luke 11:1 says, “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” So, prayer is necessary for the believer. It is a spiritual practice that we cannot and should not live without. In verse two, the Lord said to the disciples, “When you pray, say:” not if you pray but when you pray. This means we must also have time to pray. The Lord Jesus expects us to pray.
When we pray, we must believe that God hears our prayers and he will deliver us. In Hebrews 4:16, The Apostle Paul wrote, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Confidence is trusting, knowing that God will do what He says He will do in your life. When you have faith in God, your heart will be at peace even in the midst of darkness. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Rejoicing is the fruit inherent in the confidence you have in God. Philippians 4:6–7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Prayer frees us from the uncertainty of life. What a power! And James 5:15 says, “And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” Prayer is done in faith and by faith. In faith is to know and trust God. By faith is believed that God will do what he said he would do.
